Our Easter

This Easter we painted some boiled eggs together...well, Ryan and I did...Jack TRIED to eat his (shell included!). We planned on rolling them, but Jack threw 2 out of 3 on the floor...needless to say we didn't bother rolling them.
I'm sure we'll start some other Easter traditions once Jack is a little older.

Jack has been walking around for a month now and fairly successfully at that. What I mean by that is he has managed to avoid any accident up until this point. Today, however, was a mother's nightmare! In the morning he fell and
scraped his chin which then started to bleed. By the afternoon he had again fallen, this time outside whilst at the park. He managed to bump his wee head on the concrete...thankfully not too hard...but it started bruising. In the evening he he fell holding onto a toy that managed to poke his gum...again causing more blood to appear! I was a nervous wreck by the time Ryan came home from work. I was there right beside the wee guy each and every time he fell, but didn't manage to save him. Ryan reminded me that I can't always be there to protect him from everything....it sure was torture to see my little guy hurt though.

Ryan's trial went really well last week. He was part of the Defense and they won. I really enjoyed myself too actually and quite liked playing my little part as a witness. Jack had fun hanging out with the Sherwoods while I was gone, but for some reason that kid starts bawling the minute he sees me. It's so strange!

My brother flies in to SLC tonight and I can't wait to get all the goodies my parents have sent over for us...plenty of stuff to fatten us up!

9 month check up and other randomness

Today Jack had his 9 month baby well check. My visiting teacher recommended a pediatrician that she really likes over at the BYU Health Center, so I gave him a try. He was very nice and gave me some great advice on what I can do to help keep Jack's eczema under control. It's really not too bad, but it bothers him from time to time and having had it myself I know the discomfort it brings.....so any new advice and suggestions help.
The doctor asked if he was crawling yet....which was funny as literally seconds before he came in I had finally managed to pin Jack down and sit him on my knee....he'd been doing his wee penguin walk around the room before that, giddy with excitement and enjoying the doctor's swivel chair TOO much!
All in all Jack is doing great and I feel very lucky and blessed to have such a healthy wee boy.

On Wednesday of this week Ryan has a Mock Trial for one of his classes and he has asked me to participate in it as a witness...ahhh....I'm quite nervous. Ryan assures me that it will be fine, but I'm panicking a little as I have to remember a bunch of information in order to answer both the Prosecution and Defenses questions....we'll see how that goes!! The main downer about the whole thing is that it's like 4-5 hours long and so I've had to try and find a babysitter for Jack. It's such a long time to ask of someone to watch your kid, but we have the kindest sister in our ward who has offered to watch him...I just feel so bad!

My brother, Euan, is coming to Utah soon for a visit. He was actually here staying with us when I went into labor with Jack last year! Ha. I literally had to climb over him in the middle of the night to get out the apartment, as he was on sleeping on the floor. So, he got to see the brand new baby first and now he's anxious to see his wee, but now walking, nephew again. He's always busy busy when he comes to the States as he wants to see a ton of old mission companions and travel around, so I'm not exactly sure how much of him we'll see, but we'll steal him away from all that excitement for a bit I'm sure.

Nothing too much else happening at the Harris house for now...oh apart from that I am suddenly hooked on the "Twilight series" books by Stephenie Meyer. I'll even admit....YES, the concept sounds ridiculous....but I am enjoying them so much and that's all that matters to me.

Getting close to that moving date

Recently I've been thinking that it's getting to about that time that I ought to be organizing the apartment for our move. Moving is the bane of my existence! It really shouldn't be too bad though, as I barely unpacked when we moved into Wymount; knowing that we would be here for such a short time. Those of you with children know that everything gets just a little bit tricker when you have a child, and now that Jack is walking..oh...I just know that he'll make the packing process a tad more difficult...the boy is into everything!
Then I've been thinking about how I'm actually a little nervous about leaving Utah! Weird huh? It's just that it's kinda been my home away from home and I like knowing where everything is...I just feel comfortable here. But the time has come to grow up and leave our student lives behind. It is exciting knowing that we will once again have a steady income. We got so lucky that Ryan got a job in his first year. I am so proud of him and all the hard work he puts into keeping us afloat financially while still going to school so that I can be at home with Jack.
Oregon is a really beautiful place and I look forward to all the experiences we will have there.

Jack at the Park

I took Jack over to the wee park here in our quad at Wymount today. It was still kinda cold outside and it started to rain after only being out for 10 minutes, but he seemed to enjoy being out for a short while. It's so funny watching him walk around now...he just so small.
He took a wee turn on some of the fun toys lying around and a ride on the chute.

Family come to Utah

On the 25th Feb.-5th March, my sister and brother-in-law came to Utah to visit us. It was their first time meeting our wee Jack, and we couldn't have been happier for the time we got to spend with them. We pretty much just hung out in Provo/Orem, but also got the chance to spend 2 days in Salt Lake City too seeing around Temple Square. They were able to go in and do a session in the Temple too, which they really enjoyed.
Each morning Jack seemed a little surprised to see them at first...which was so funny...Rachel kept on saying "We're still here!"
He really became quite attached to them both, especially Rachel. I had wondered before they came if he would be more comfortable around her considering she looks a little like me and, of course, the accent is the same. I had gone into take a shower one morning and I heard Jack just screaming. Ryan was trying to calm him down and he just wouldn't let up. And then all of a sudden he stopped very abruptly. When I came out, there he was sitting with Auntie Rachel going through her suitcase and playing with all her clothes. Ryan said to me..."Well, I guess you can be replaced after all...ha." It was quite funny.
All in all we had a wonderful time with both Rachel and Fred and wished they could have stayed longer. They left to go to Washington D.C. and NYC for the last 5 days of their holiday and we hope they are having a wonderful time!
Jack kept wandering into the room they had slept in the following day after they had left....it was so sad to see that he too missed the company.

BUT WE'LL SEE YOU ALL IN MAY!
